3980 low floor AC electric buses will be included in the fleet of Delhi Transport Corporation. Of these, there will be 1900 buses of 12 meters and 2080 buses of nine metres. In two years, all the buses will start plying on the roads of Delhi. For the first time, after the mini electric buses hit the roads, the passengers will start getting bus facility near the colonies as well. This will reduce the jam and commuters will not have to resort to other transport options even to reach the last mile.

Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL) has floated a tender for 3,980 electric buses for the Delhi government in two phases. Tender for 2400 buses has been floated under the second phase in January. After the completion of the tender process, all the buses will start plying on the roads in two years.

According to a CESL official, 1900 low floor AC electric buses of 12 meters will be of different companies. Passengers are expected to get a lot of relief from 2,080 buses of small size i.e. 9 meters. The Delhi government will pay Rs 62.7 per kilometer for 12 meter length buses and Rs 56.87 per kilometer for nine meter buses.

This plan has been made to strengthen the public transport system in Delhi. Under this, buses will be included in the fleet under Delhi Transport Corporation and cluster scheme. At present, 7,379 buses are running in Delhi under DTC and cluster scheme. Out of these, new electric buses are being included by replacing the old ones.

Transport fleet will have more than 10 buses by 2025

Presently 300 low floor AC electric buses are running in Delhi. 1500 more electric buses will be inducted by December. By 2025, 6380 more electric buses will be added to Delhi’s transport fleet. With this, the transport fleet of Delhi will be more than 10000. About 80 percent of these buses will be electric. For these buses, charging facility will be provided for the buses in all the depots.

Charging facility will be available in 27 bus depots:

Along with the increase in the number of electric buses in Delhi, charging facility will also be available. Along with installing fast chargers, parking facilities for buses are also being expanded. For new electric buses, charging facilities for buses will be provided in 27 depots. For this, facilities are being developed in new depots after sharing with discom companies.

Inauguration of Material Recovery Facility Center

The Lieutenant Governor on Friday inaugurated a Material Recovery Facility (MRF) of NDMC at West Kidwai Nagar. It is set up to separate recyclable items from household waste. NDMC President Amit Yadav, Vice President Satish Upadhyay were present.

NDMC has set up this MRF center at Transfer Station Old Arjun Das Camp for micro-segregation of dry waste collected during door to door collection before sending the non-recyclable dry waste to Waste to Energy Plant Okhla. This will help in the removal of recyclable items by micro-segregation of dry waste, improving the livelihood of waste pickers.
